ANNUAL OLIVE FESTIVAL: TALK & TASTING - 'THE ART OF ARTISAN OLIVE CURING'

LOCATION:  123 FARM AND HIGHLAND SPRINGS RANCH & INN, CHERRY VALLEY, CALIFORNIA

VIEW PREVIOUS YEAR'S OLIVE CURING LECTURE HERE

We are honored that our organic olive will be featured and offered this year at the 11th Annual Olive Festival.  And we'll be there each day at 1pm giving a talk and tasting.  Come and learn how the old-world method of fermentation curing preserves the olive's natural characteristics resulting in an exceptional olive that is rich in flavor, full of health benefits, and free of chemical preservatives. This fine-flavored, heirloom variety, organic Peruvian Dried Black Botija Olive is unique and likely different from most olives you’ve tasted. We're pairing this delicious olive with a specially selected cheese from the Festival so that you may experience the outstanding taste and flavor for yourself. We'll show you how combining a few, simple ingredients creates an excellent appetizer you can easily prepare at home for your family or guests.  You can purchase these olives in the Organic Marketplace tent at the Festival.  We hope you'll join us at the Olive Festival at 123 Farm.

Purchase Zebra Organics select offerings at the Festivals Organic Marketplace:  Cured Black Olives, Rainforest Honey, Chocolate Crunch (Cowboy Crunch), & Goldenberries.

THURSDAYS - MONDAYS, AUGUST 24 - OCTOBER 29, 2023, 5pm - 10pm
LAVENDER NIGHTS

LOCATION:  HIGHLAND SPRINGS RANCH & INN / 123 Farm, CHERRY VALLEY, CALIFORNIA

Stroll through the lavender fields and olive trees, under the stars at this beautiful organic farm and ranch. This enchanting event features outdoor dining, marketplace farm shops, live music, and dazzling lights that softly illuminate parts of the lavender fields and the centuries year old trees.  You feel like you've gone back in time or traveled to vermont in this peaceful and charming farm setting in the foothills at the base of the wilderness.

The pizza dough is made in the farm bakery and then put into the woodfired oven, made to order.  The fig and goat cheese pizza is one of our favorites as the figs are grown on the farm.  Be sure and visit the goats and sheep while on the farm, and walk out to the 1000 year old oak tree.  The mission figs are used in one of the balsamic vinegar offerings that is a constant in our pantry.  Culinary lavender and olive oil from the farm are among our other favorites.

You'll find the olive oil, mission fig balsamic, culinary lavender, along with a selection of Zebra Organics gourmet food products in the Sourdough Bread Cottage (M on the Festival map), a cute shop worth visiting on the farm. This is also the place where you can purchase the sourdough bread, baked fresh in the farms kitchen daily. We suggest picking up a jar of Zebra Organics Raw Rainforest Honey as this rich flavored honey goes excellent on the bread.

Please come say hi to us as we'll be at the Festival most days. Also offered in the Sourdough Bread Cottage is Zebra Organics black, dried Peruvian olives that are fermentation cured, the old-world way of preserving the olives taste, personality and nutrients. Our sweet & tart Goldnberries, and the delicious/fun Cowboy Crunch Cacao are also offered in this same shop... we hope you'll take some of these very special foods home with you to use in your kitchen.

'FOODS AND LIFESTYLE FOR A HAPPY, HEALTHY DISPOSITION' - BY NUTRITIONIST PAT OLSEN
LOCATION:  PALM SPRINGS PUBLIC LIBRARY AT SUNRISE PARK - 300 S SUNRISE WAY, PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA

At this event, Nutritionist Pat Olsen, along with her special guests, will walk us through ways we can easily shift our diet and lifestyle to support our well-being and health.

Learn how nutrient-rich foods and exercise can improve your overall health and well-being. Over the past decade, a growing body of research has shown that a healthy diet abundant in fruits, vegetables, grains, fish and unprocessed foods can contribute to keeping you happy and healthy. Pat will prepare a healthful and tasty salad and demonstrate how you can easily make your meals at home healthier.  She will be joined by Mario of Coachella Urban Valley Farms who will bring a variety of his locally grown micro greens fresh from the farm.  While he explains why micro greens are so good for you, Pat will toss them into the salad.  Isabel of Isabel's Naturals will provide a taste of her cacao-mushroom latte.  She'll tell us why superfood beverages are so good for us and how easy they are to add to our diet. We are grateful that Dr. Scott Buesing will also be on hand to answer naturopathic medical questions during the Q&A.

Pat Olsen, Nutritionist & Health Motivator:
In 1965 Pat Olsen attended a talk, in her hometown of Los Angeles, at a local health food store that would change her life and profoundly shift her health for the better. When her neighbor, who owned an organic cafe in Hollywood, California, took her to a talk by health and wellness pioneers Linus Pauling, Adel Davis, and Gladys Lindberg Pat knew things would not be the same, and they were not from that day forward. She went home, tossed out everything in the cupboard and replaced it with nutrient dense, living, “real” food. With the support of her doctor and these newly acquainted nutrition experts, Pat found herself off of insulin and feeling better. She has had no sign of diabetes for the last 55 years.  Seeing the wonderful results of her radical lifestyle change she was determined to help others in making such shifts in their lives. So Pat started her education, got a degree in nutrition, starting lecturing and became a significant force of change in the Los Angeles area. Pat even took people into her home, totally immersing them into a program that shifted their diet and lifestyle. During her carrier Pat was a pioneering press photographer and forensic photographer, working with Los Angeles area hospitals and emergency medical agencies. In her retirement, at 84 years young, Pat Olsen is still going strong giving lectures and consulting people on healthy living. Pat also serves as a senior nutrition advisor to Zebra Organics.

Dr. Scott Buesing, ND:
Dr. Scott Buesing is a naturopathic doctor at The Refinery Integrated Wellness Clinic in Palm Desert. Dr. Scott's clinical experience includes working in a partial hospitalization program for patients with moderate to severe mental health conditions along with more recent work in pain medicine. In addition, he's published on vitamin B12 as a treatment for pain. Dr. Buesing has positively impacted the lives of many through integrated medicine.

Mario Garcia, Local Farmer:
Mario is the founder of Coachella Urban Valley Farms, a grower of organic micro greens supplying area restaurants, natural food markets, and the local Farmer’s Market.

Isabel Mihalich, Local Artisan Tonic Maker:
Isabel is the founder of Isabel’s Naturals, an artisan creator of tonic herbal mixtures and cacao superfood blends sold in local health foods stores.

'A NATUROPATHIC APPROACH TO MENTAL HEALTH AND STRESS' - DR. SCOTT BUESING
EVENT ALREADY TOOK PLACE

Depression, anxiety, burnout, and stress are all extremely common in modern day society. Standard medical approaches, raising neurotransmitters like serotonin and norepinephrine with drugs have been shown to have limited benefits with concerning side effects. Yet, when you look at the research, it becomes clear that there are numerous contributing factors to how we feel and these factors are commonly overlooked by western medicine.

Naturopathic medicine as a core principle includes the concept of "Treat the Cause". Individuals struggling with stress may have nutritional deficiencies, poor dietary habits, hormonal dysregulation, increased inflammation, infections and even toxicity in some cases that can contribute negatively to how we feel.

A naturopathic approach can often help an individual significantly on their path back to wellbeing by identifying these problems and treating them directly.

- Dr. Scott Buesing, Naturopathic Doctor.
